2013-2014 Mentoring Update

by wictseblog

Jamelia Headshot It’s hard to believe that its mid-March is here already!  I hope that you all had a great New Year and are getting back into the swing of things, both at work and home.  Please take a moment to review if you have questions, concerns or feedback about the program.  We would love to hear from you!

First, congratulations to the Knoxville membership and programming teams for a great Taste of WICT – Knoxville.  Almost 200 people attended the event and many of these attendees were mentoring pairs or people very interested in becoming a mentor or mentee!  Thank you Knoxville mentoring pairs for taking advantage of this opportunity.

We want you to know that your Mentoring Committee has been busy organizing some great events to wrap up this year’s mentoring session and are already planning ahead for some exciting changes to take place next session!  Please continue to provide feedback on your experience as we always strive to make the mentoring program better each year.

March 3rdKnoxville Professional Round Robin – Open to both the Student Mentoring and the Peer 2 Peer groups. Time is 4:30 – 6:00 at Scripps.  More details to come.

March 5th – WICT National Webinar: Folding Time. As leaders we are constantly being asked to do more with less. If we can get clear about the activities that make the biggest difference to our productivity we can get twice as much done in half the time and free ourselves up to get on with whatever else we choose.  This webinar is perfect for leaders who want more control so they can manage their time, focus their attention and manage their energy.

We encourage you to attend this FREE WICT National Webinar!  If Time Management is something you have discussed during mentoring sessions, this might be a great webinar to attend as a pair.

Tuesday, March 4th 5:00–8:00pm Taste of WICT: Atlanta at Villa Christina!  As your know our events on January 29th and February 11th were cancelled due to weather.  We are hoping that the 3rd time is a charm!!  As a reminder, the Taste of WICT is replacing our traditional Mid-Point event so we truly encourage you come with your mentor or mentee. We have a wonderful speaker scheduled to present and will even have tables set aside for you to have some one-on-one time as mentoring pairs!  Sara and I will be at the mentoring table and would love to meet you and learn about your mentoring experience so far this year!  Please make sure to stop by and say hello!

Wednesday, March 26th Save the Date for our upcoming Atlanta Mentoring Program Breakfast.  We are excited to have Doug Guthrie, Senior Regional Vice President, Comcast Big South region as our speaker.

April – End of Mentoring Year Celebrations in Knoxville & Atlanta.

Mentoring Tip

Inspire  And others will follow. (This is also the 2015 WICT Touchstone)
Rally those around you to join in your mission. Be a mentor, a guide, and a role model – one who learns from what she teaches. Help those around you achieve their full potential with a helping hand that paves the way for future leaders. Be dynamic and strong and you will inspire others to embrace your vision as THE vision. The one they want to be part of. And the one they choose to follow.

–        Don’t let your current situation, role or job title stop you from being an inspiration to those around you – someone is always watching!
