2013 Mentoring Kick-Off Orientation Event
By: Kate Silva
The beginning of the new mentoring season started with the official Peer-2-Peer Orientation event Thursday night, September 12, held at Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta, GA and video conference to Scripps Networks in Knoxville, TN. In addition to learning about the roles and responsibilities of the members in the P2P mentoring program, those attending met their mentoring partner for the year and were provided an orientation folder with program materials as well as their partner’s background information to help facilitate their orientation and successful on-boarding.
This year’s roster is the largest number of members the Southeast Chapter has had to date, with 79 P2P members in Atlanta and 28 in Tennessee’s P2P group. In addition, there are a total of 25 College Mentors, with anticipation of 40 Atlanta college students representing Spelman College, Georgia Institute of Technology and two additional colleges to be announced in the Circle Mentoring program. Plus, there are 15 Tennessee students, representing the University of Tennessee and Pellissippi State College.
Board Vice President Julie Jared helped kick off the evening with some welcoming remarks about WICT’s award-winning mentoring program, WICT, as well as the Southeast chapter overall. Special guest speaker for the evening was Arlene Mayfield, SVP of RentPath, and president of Apartment Guide, Rentals and Homes Divisions. Arlene shared her leadership journey in the apartment rental industry, her personal trials and triumphs, mentors that have supported her and still do, and the success of their flagship brand Apartment Guide, located in Norcross, GA.
And for some fun to cap off the evening, compliments of RentPath, a door prize was won by Linda Hizer of Cox Communications.
